I am stunned that Apple is stunned! Shouldn't we be able to play whatever we want on our iPods and similar devices? What is this perennial misguided preoccupation with technology "lock-in". Why don't vendors understand that quality of experience expressed through products and services, rather than technology is what should be sought as the point of lock-in. Isn't brand building what this process is supposed to be about ultimately?
Oh well, Apple have just revealed to its current and future competitors a clear point of attack re. the iPod's and its current dominant position in the digital music player market segment.
